Anna Paquin as Rogue did not appear in "X-Men: Days of Future Past" in a controversial (overblown) editing decision.

Director Bryan Singer objected to the film getting extended to a runtime of almost three hours, but the decision was met by outrage and issues of sexism. At most, the decision resulted in a continuity question, as mentioned by Screen Rant.

Since continuity is not Fox's strong suit with the mutant universe, we can never really be too sure on what Rogue's final fate was. Thus, just like Hugh Jackman's Wolverine, she can also return.

That would definitely delight the fans of the Oscar-winning actress. However, she did state some conditions on Twitter.

Rogue's powers involve her having skin contact with another person and absorbing their abilities. Rogue did that with Carol Danvers, aka Ms. Marvel who can fly and has super strength, among others. For some reason, she absorbed her abilities permanently (or at least long term). For quite a stretch in the comic book series, Rogue had super strength and the ability to fly.

However, as Cinema Blend points out, Carol Danvers is Marvel Studios' property as she is part of the Avengers.

"If the X-Men movies were to try and give Rogue these extra abilities, however, they would have to find an alternative 'origin story,' as Ms. Marvel is a character that belongs to Marvel Studios and therefore can't be used by 20th Century Fox."|

Ms. Marvel will be renamed Captain Marvel and she is slated to have her own movie to be released on November 2, 2018. The actress who'll play Captain Marvel has yet to be announced. How about Anna Paquin herself?

Contract terms notwithstanding, it's not outside the realm of possibility. Many actors have made the jump playing comic book characters from different movie studios, most notable of which are Chris Evans and Ryan Reynolds.
