The Ministry of Culture in China is planning to tighten its regulations on animation, comic and game (ACG) content, a statement on the MoC's official site said on Wednesday.
The ministry listed 11 online firms, including Qihoo 360 and Baidu, that are being investigated as the Internet companies are allegedly providing video games that feature violence, pornographic content and gambling, which are against China's social values.
According to the ministry's statement on the website, 21 sites have been also deemed to offer comics and animated series that contain violent, gory and horrific content.
Market department deputy director Liu Qiang from the Ministry of Culture denounced ac.qq.com-produced animated program "Zombie Brother" for featuring gory content, including decapitation scenes.
Liu also criticized another animated series titled "Bikini Island" as it shows provocative content regarding the female body and its story has a pornographic nature.
According to Liu, the ministry would be starting to regulate how users post comments on the inappropriate animated shows' websites for other users to see.
"We are communicating with relative departments. We hope that we will be provided with clear directions so we may adjust our content," said co-founder Dong Zhiling of u17.com, which is one of the listed websites in the Ministry of Culture's statement.
