Chinese State Councilor Guo Shengkun met with Kazakh Prime Minister Karim Massimov on Thursday to discuss matters concerning security between China and Kazakhstan, according to a Global Times report.
Guo, who is on an official visit to Kazakhstan, said that China is looking to tighten its partnership with the Central Asian country in the areas of safety, security and law enforcement.
This follows the developments in the ties between the two nations that have occurred in recent years, with the Chinese security official speaking of the enhanced mutual political trust between the partner countries.
Guo said that on the basis of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization's Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure, China is desirous of working systematically with Kazakhstan to better enforce laws and collaborate more closely on security matters.
The Chinese official said that he is hoping to see the two countries work more intensively together on anti-drug campaigns and securing borders and oil and gas pipelines, along with fighting the East Turkistan Islamic Movement and other terrorist groups.
Massimov, meanwhile, said that Kazakhstan remains devoted to the joint efforts to eradicate terrorism, separatism and extremism, dubbed as the "three evil forces."
The Kazakh prime minister said that, in addition to the interest of security, his country is also looking forward to a deeper partnership with China in trade, economics and energy.
Massimov also reaffirmed Kazakhstan's support and willingness to be involved in the establishment of the China-initiated Silk Road Economic Belt.
