Bethesda's "Fallout 4" beat the record previously held by "Grand Theft Auto V" of having concurrent players playing the game.
With more than 445,000 concurrent players enjoying the world of "Fallout 4" on Steam, Bethesda's latest game has officially beaten "Grand Theft Auto V" for being the third-party game to have the most players online on the Steam platform.
"Grand Theft Auto V" held the record with 360,000 concurrent players as tracked by Steam Charts, according to Gamespot. Moreover, the latest "Grand Theft Auto" game surpassed another Bethesda game before it took the top spot. In 2011, "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim" garnered 280,000 games playing at the same time.
While "Fallout 4" has much to celebrate for breaking the record, the two most played games in Steam are actually made by video game developer Valve. Both "Counter-Strike Global Offensive" and "Dota 2" have had at least 820,000 concurrent players each, well over the third-party record held by "Fallout 4."
In terms of performance, GameSpot has accorded "Fallout 4" with heaps of praise, although bland animations and game bugs have dampened the overall experience. Similarly, there have been glitches in the game that have led to some companions suddenly leaving the protagonist, according to St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Daytime lighting is excellent in "Fallout 4," the graphics are not as smooth as that of "Metal Gear Solid V." Even if the overall environment is beautiful to gaze upon, the character models are slightly less appealing.
The weapons in the latest "Fallout" game have also changed dramatically. Guns cannot be upgraded anymore by fusing two similar models together, nor can they ever degenerate.
In the sandbox game "Fallout 4," players have to master the art of crafting and foraging for materials in order to create new combat tools.
Bethesda's "Fallout 4" was released on Nov. 10, Tuesday, for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
