The local government of Shanghai's Jinshan District is looking to turn its coastline into a sub-center, according to a report by Shanghai Daily.

Jinshan's urban planning body said on Monday that the sub-center will have tourist spots, cultural areas and office buildings on the district's 7.2-kilometer shoreline along Hangzhou Bay, near the Jinshan railway station center.

Officials of the district have called for submissions from around the world for plans for developing the shoreline.

Proposals must come from parties that possess national registered certificates for those based in China and senior certificates from those abroad, while all interested developers are required to have a base in China.

The planned sub-center will reflect the characteristics of the whole of Jinshan District, according to authorities.

"The coastal area will become a representation area for the image of Jinshan District, while most of the area will be open to the public," said a statement from the planning body.

The Jinshan City Beach and the Jinshanzui Fishing Village will undergo refurbishing to become central tourist destinations.

Cultural venues, meanwhile, will include theaters and art galleries.

Parties that are interested to develop the area may submit their proposals until Dec. 18 to the Shanghai Urban Planning and Design Research Institute.
