While "Sister Wives" star Meri Brown thought she was having an online affair with Sam, it turns out she was a victim of a "catfishing" situation and had actually been cheating on Kody Brown with a woman.
The 44-year-old Meri surprisingly had been a victim of "catfishing" on "Sister Wives" season finale airing on Nov. 15. The moment the Browns take a tour to Alaska in the final episode, Meri sits down with Kody and her sister wives to unveil what really happened during her online love affair.
In an interview with US Weekly, Meri said, "During an emotional and vulnerable time earlier this year, I began speaking with someone online who turned out to be not who they said they were."
Meri added that she never met the person and regrets being drawn into the situation. However, she acknowledges that being in such a situation will be advantageous because she can help others who find themselves in similar incidences.
During the confession, it is revealed that Meri was having an emotional attachment with a woman from Oklahoma called Jackie Overton, posing as "Sam Cooper." Before realizing that she was a victim of catfishing, Meri had become so intimate to the person she thought was "Sam Cooper" to the extent that she was ready to leave Kody.
Meri eventually divorced Kody, but that happened so that his youngest wife, Robyn Brown, could become his legal wife and her children could get his insurance and benefits.
All this time when Meri was being catfished, Robyn was aware but decided not to say anything.
A source told In Touch Weekly in the Oct. 8 issue, "Robyn absolutely knew from the beginning that Meri was being catfished. Robyn sat back and just watched as the whole scam unraveled."
