An exhibition showcasing the historical and cultural heritage of southwest China's Sichuan Province kicked off on Dec. 5 at the Times Museum in Beijing.
The "Shu Culture in the Clouds" exhibit is the latest in Times Museum's series of showcases of provincial cultures, which commenced in 2011, according to the Global Times.
"Shu Culture in the Clouds" has on display items that are geared toward providing a window into both the ancient and modern culture of the province.
Sichuan is known for its ancient archaeological sites Sanxingdui and Jinsha, which are located near the capital of Chengdu.
Sanxingdui is known for its Bronze Age culture, discovered in 1987, with artifacts dating from 12th to 11th centuries BCE.
The tangible cultural finds recovered from the site are identified with the ancient kingdom of Shu, after which the Beijing exhibit is named.
The Sanxingdui Culture, as the civilization and its features came to be called, has been cited as proof that Chinese civilization developed in different areas of China rather than sprawling from the area around the Yellow River, as was previously believed.
The modern items featured at the exhibit include paintings depicting the landscape and terrain of the province.
Other artworks include watercolor paintings of people performing daily duties, such as that of elderly people playing mahjong.
The exhibit will run until Dec. 15.
