In a detailed account on Vanity Fair, Beverly Johnson recounts her story and the circumstances that led to the event. She says that all these decades she kept mum about the issue, because Bill Cosby was a legend and a powerful man and she didn't want her career to take a blow, in case he planned to get back at her.

Johnson claims that she received a call from "The Cosby Show" for a possible role in the immensely popular show. Johnson, who was going through a traumatic personal time at that time, jumped at the opportunity and went to the studio to audition for the role. She also recounted how she was engaged in a bitter custody battle with her husband for their daughter and Bill Cosby listened with a patient ear and sympathized with her. He later invited her to his house, where Beverly and her daughter were treated like royalty.

Later, Beverly was again invited for an audition at Cosby's home. She went there and was asked to enact the role of a pregnant-drunk woman. She was offered a cappuccino, which was drugged. After a couple of sips, she realized that she had been drugged and she started shouting expletives at Cosby. This seemed to infuriate the actor-comedian and he dragged her down the stairs and bundled her off home, in a taxi.

Beverly wanted to confront Bill Cosby, but she worried about the effect that it would have on her modeling career, as he was quite a powerful man. However, when other accusers started coming forth with their stories of rape and molestations, then Beverly felt that it was high time that she did as well.
