China's National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) is set to hold its annual Open Day on Dec. 22, according to the Global Times.
The event, considered to be the opera house's biggest offering, has been held yearly since the year following the NCPA's founding in 2008 to celebrate its anniversary.
Wang Zhengming, vice president of the NCPA, said that 70 performances are lined up for this year's Open Day, which will start at 9 a.m. and conclude at 4:30 p.m.
Among the performances will be the NCPA's latest original work "Visitors on the Snow Mountain," its take on the Peking opera "Bond of Silk," and a number of classical music presentations, among others.
Wang said that the NCPA is anticipating more than 10,000 people to come to its theater to watch the performances.
The NCPA, also referred to as "The Giant Egg" after the building's shape, has shown 47 original works, including Chinese operas and Western musicals since its establishment.
Wang said that efforts are being done to promote the opera center abroad, among the fruits of which is the 2012 performances of its original opera "Red Cliff" in several countries.
Its two new original works, the Silk Road-inspired ballet "Marco Polo" and the opera "The Rickshaw Boy," will be performed next year in Europe with the aim of spreading knowledge of the Chinese culture overseas.
Tickets to this year's Open Day are for free but should be reserved online or at the NCPA office.
