Rapper Bobby Shmurda was arrested on Wednesday by the New York Police District for an ongoing investigation into drug trafficking and gang shooting. The exact charges under which he was detained were not released to the press.
The actual name of the 20-year-old rapper is Ackquille Pollard. He was arrested just as he was leaving a recording studio in the vicinity of the Radio City Music Hall in NYC. It does not seem that the rapper was anticipating being arrested as he was exiting from the recording studio.
The spokesperson of the Office of the Special Narcotics Prosecutor Kati Cornell revealed that Shmurda's arraignment would be held on Dec. 18, Thursday. She refused to comment on the exact charges under which he is being detained.
During the arrest of Shmurda, the police personnel also searched the premises of the recording studio and recovered handguns. Another upcoming hip-hop enthusiast Chad Marshal, who goes by the name of Rowdy Rebel was also arrested from the recording studio. The identity of the lawyers who are representing both the singers was not disclosed to the public either.
Shmurda gained name and fame with his super-hit song "Hot Boy" and he also got a lot of critical fame for the Shmoney dance move. In fact, his song became so popular that he was asked to perform it at the "Jimmy Kimmel Live" show as well. The video of this song has scored big with the online users as well.
This is not the first time that the Brooklyn-born rapper had a tryst with the authorities. In the past, he was arrested twice for drug possession and for having illegal guns.
