Ellen DeGeneres admitted that she follows "Finding Nemo's" Dory's philosophy "just keep swimming" in real life.

DeGeneres has famously given the voice for Dory, the forgetful fish in the hit movie. The 57-year-old was talking to ET when she revealed that the 2003 animated movie came to her rescue at the time when she was out of work and going through a low phase in her life.

"I hadn't worked at all. People don't realize that, because it took three years to do "Finding Nemo," said the star host before adding that the movie's director Andrew Stanton had kept her in mind while penning down the character of Dory.

DeGeneres started her TV career with the hit show "Ellen," in which she played a neurotic bookstore owner in her thirties. Her popularity was at its peak when she came out as a lesbian in "Oprah Winfrey Show" followed by another coming out episode in "Ellen" show.

The series was soon cancelled and DeGeneres was out of work and she had struggled a lot to find work.

By the time "Finding Nemo" was released, she launched a daytime talk show "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" due to which she admittedly believes that motto "just keep swimming" applies to her and many other people.

DeGeneres is once again set to star in the hit movie's sequel "Finding Dory". The movie will release on June 17, 2016.

In "Finding Dory," the forgetful fish recollects something about her family. This time it is Marlin's turn to help Dory to reunite with her family. Apart from DeGeneres, Albert Brookes, Vicky Lewis and Willem Dafoe are set to reprise their roles. Joining the star-studded cast is Hayden Rolence, who still attends Middle School in Aurora, to voice for the movie's lead character Nemo, Chicago Tribune reported.
