When he tweeted a compliment to another man's good looks, Reid Ewing of "Modern Family" insists he did not "out" himself because he never hid his different gender preference. But he confirms he is gay to put an end to the issue.
Ewing plays Dylan in "Modern Family." It is a recurring guest role wherein he plays a goofy boyfriend.
The tweet was in connection with a 2011 "Good Morning America" feature on body dysmorphic disorder to which Ewing recently admitted struggling with. He tweeted on Sunday, "Saw Eugene Bata on @GMA in the Body Dysmorphia segment connected to my article and I just want to say he is hot af."
That tweet led @MichaelJMapes to ask Ewing, "Did you also just out yourself?" Ewing replied, "I was never in," quotes E! News.
On Monday, he points out that he wrote a cosmetic surgery article, but what got the public attention more was his confirmation that he is gay, reports LA Times.
For sharing about his body dysmorphia issue and confirming he is gay, fans of the actor lauded Ewing.
The 27-year-old actor, in an essay for Huffington Post, provided details of how he battled body dysmorphia, including undergoing several cosmetic surgeries to achieve a certain look. He noted in the essay that body dysmorphic disorder is a mental illness and admitted "in my case, my looks were the only thing that mattered to me."
He added that people who opt to undergo cosmetic procedures do so to be accepted, "but it usually leaves them feeling even more like an outsider. We don't hear enough stories about cosmetic surgery from this perspective."
