After the Ministry of Education's recently released data that shows that China now leads the world when it comes to the export of Chinese students to overseas institutions, Chinese television producers launched a new series on Beijing Satellite Channel on Dec. 26, Friday.
Titled "The Children Came Home," a total of 37 episodes will explore the experiences of three Chinese citizens after they return home from studying in another country.
The new television program, which, according to China Daily may be the first of its kind, most likely builds upon outstanding data that shows a massive increase in the growth of China's international student sector. Between 1978 and 2013, the cumulative total of students was close to 3 million, while from 2001 to 2013, the number of Chinese students who returned to their homeland from periods abroad increased from approximately 11,000 to 350,000.
In relation to the premise of "The Children Came Home," the news site provided further data that reveals that approximately 62 percent of Chinese students who engage in international educational programs return to their homeland to proceed with vocational goals.
Jiang Kaiyang, the show's director, explained to reporters: "More and more Chinese students have come back after graduation in foreign countries as they see the numerous job offers and other opportunities."
Jiang's comment is also reaffirmed by research results, as the HAYS professional recruitment agency recently discovered a high level of optimism among those who return home to launch careers, with just over half believing that they can find work within China inside of one to three months.
Statistical information seems relevant, as the series' producers interviewed more than 70 students who studied overseas to inform regarding their creation of the television show.
