The Philadelphia 76ers would be hard put to discard their "Worst team of all time" tag as they now have a 26-game losing streak.
They actually tie their own record, established last year. NBC Sports noted that they are also on the cusp of the worst start in NBA History while the Golden State Warriors just broke the best start (now at 16-0 and counting).
"Philadelphia is also in danger of the worst start to a season. The 2009-10 New Jersey Nets began 0-18, and last year's 76ers won only one game sooner."
It is quite a surprise that their fans have are not outraged with their team losing, although they don't bother attending the games (understandably). It may be a matter of time when the ownership would demand some return on their investment, though, but as of now, the Sixers will continue to lose.
Their next outing is on Friday against the Rockets, where they could break the losing streak record. They take on the resurgent Grizzlies on Sunday and if they lose, they tie the record at 0-18.
The worst start ever could be recorded on December 1 and interestingly, they will face the Los Angeles Lakers. The Lakers were the same team that the Golden State Warriors faced when they established the best start in NBA history on November 24. This makes their match-up a "must see."
There could be another record that the Sixers could be in play for. According to Celtics Life, the 1972-73 Sixers (yes, the same franchise) went 9-73, the worst record in NBA history. If this season's Sixers continue to lose, they may break that record-in the same year that the Golden State Warriors could break the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls' 72-10 record.
