Amazon said that it signed up 10 million new customers to its Prime service, costing $99 a year. The company revealed this astonishing number on Friday, soon after its yearly post-Christmas debriefing.
Prime's free two-day shipping is the likely reason behind many people opting for opting for one of the biggest online retailer this year, since it allows people to do last minute shopping for themselves and their family.
Meanwhile, Amazon has added Prime, Music, Prime Photos and Prime Pantry to their list, and is also keen to expand its one-hour delivery service and mobile-based shopping. The one-hour delivery service was launched in Manhattan only last week and is a huge success, considering that eBay, its biggest rival discontinued its 'Now delivery service' this year.
Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos praised their courier staff, who worked round the clock on Christmas Eve to make sure that the courier reaches them as soon as possible.
"We are working hard to make Prime even better and expanding the recently launched Prime Now to additional cities in 2015," said Bezos in a statement.
Amazon's mobile APP has helped the company ensure that they make maximum profit. As per The Verge, the company said that 60 percent of purchases made during the holidays were through a smartphone or tablet. Mobile purchases sky rocketed on Cyber Monday, which they consider to be their peak mobile shopping day.
Few of the top sellers at Amazon during the holiday season include its own Fire TV Stick, Fire HD 6, Fire HD 7 and their popular streaming media box, Amazon Fire TV, according to CNET.
Televisions, cameras, computers and video games were the other popular commodity that sold like hot cakes in the tech-related category. Also, almost everybody bought an Amazon Basics HDMI cable.
Meanwhile, the company is constantly devising strategies to increase their profits and is offering perks such as e-book, video rentals, and one-hour delivery service.
