Sony announced that it has extended its holiday sale up until Jan. 6, Tuesday, in an effort to make up to its customers after the outage during the holidays.
In a company blog post, the Japanese conglomerate said that the move was a "response to popular demand."
The PlayStation Store Holiday Sale includes popular video game titles such as "Dragon Age: Inquisition," "Destiny," "Grade Theft Auto V," "Alien Isolation" and many more.
Additionally, Sony is giving a five-day extension to PlayStation Plus members that have an existing subscription, including free trials, on Christmas day. According to Sony's blog post, the extension will automatically be applied. The PlayStation maker is also giving a 10 percent discount code to show their appreciation to PlayStation Network members. The discount will be applicable to a total cart purchase.
Both the PlayStation Network and the Xbox Live platforms went offline due to a massive cyber-attack over the holidays. Daily Mail reports that a group called the "Lizard Squad" were claiming to be behind the cyber-attacks against the two gaming networks.
According to Polygon, the "Lizard Squad" threatened to make an attack on the two giant gaming networks earlier in December.
In an interview with Sky News, a man named Ryan claiming to be part of the hacking group said that the attack was to "raise awareness" regarding the networks' security.
After being given gift cards worth several hundred dollars from Kim Dotcom, the founder of Megaupload, the "Lizard Squad" ended its attacks on both of the gaming networks, according to The Verge.
