Gennady Golovkin confirmed he is ready to fight anyone next year, according to "GGG" himself.
Golovkin, who holds the IBO, IBF, and WBA super middleweight champion, announced on Twitter that he plans on fighting the likes of "Canelo or a different opponent."
Golovkin is the mandatory contender for the Saul "Canelo" Alvarez's WBC middleweight belt, but with the governing body giving the Mexican champ an extension to negotiate with "Trips," a potential superfight between boxing's two rising stars may not happen until September next year.
If Golovkin is yet to settle the score with Alvarez, Dan Ambrose of Boxing News 24 suggested that WBA regular middleweight champ Daniel Jacobs would be an ideal alternative for the undefeated Kazakh at the meantime.
Ambrose wrote: "Daniel Jacobs would be an ideal opponent for Golovkin if it were possible to get Jacobs and his promoter Lou Dibella and adviser Al Haymon to agree to a fight against the Kazakhstan fighter."
After an impressive win against Peter Quillin on Sunday in the "Battle of Brooklyn" at the Barclays Center, Jacobs has cemented his status as one of the top fighters in the 160-pound division.
However, Jacobs does not seem to be too interested in fighting Golovkin due to the latter's low pay-per-view numbers against David Lemieux last October.
"[Golovkin] is not someone who I fear," Jacobs told Boxing Scene.
"Obviously, when you're dealing with a sport like this you wanna make sure you have the finances where it needs to be, in order for it to be such a big fight. I'm just making sure that I get in there and get compensated correctly."
Golovkin only managed a petit 150,000 PPV buys in his bout against Lemieux and could earn the same, or less, against Jacobs, who has just started to make a name in the boxing world.
However, fighting Golovkin could be Jacobs' stepping stone in landing bigger bouts against the likes of Andy Lee, Billy Joe Saunders, or even Alvarez.
Golovkin's bout against Alvarez will not happen anytime soon, so it would be wise for the Kazakh knockout artist to opt for a challenger who could potentially boost him into a PPV star. Jacobs could be that opponent.
