Currently filming "The Divergent Series: Allegiant," Keiynan Lonsdale made his debut as Wally West in "The Flash" season 2 episode 9 titled "Running to Stand Still," which aired on The CW on Dec. 8, Tuesday.
In a recent interview with Blastr, Lonsdale talked about landing the role of Wally West in "The Flash," his preparation for the role and the character's arrival Central City. He revealed, "I wasn't that into comics growing up, to be honest, but I always liked watching the films and knew the characters."
According to Lonsdale, he was only really educated on "The Flash" when he started watching The CW series and from then, he started buying the comics. To help him learn a bit more about Wally West, DC just sent him some old classics so now, he feels like he has been "getting a good fix."
Before landing the role of Wally West in "The Flash," Lonsdale played Uriah in "Insurgent," which was released on March 20. Directed by Robert Schwentke, the sci-fi thriller film starred Shailene Woodley, Theo James and Ansel Elgort.
Lonsdale compared being part of "The Flash" cast to starring in the "Divergent" films, which are based on the books and has fan base. The difference is that a comic book world is an entirely different thing he is learning about, he said.
Before "The Flash" season 2 episode 9 titled "Running to Stand Still" aired, Lonsdale gave some details on what fans can expect from Wally West. He said his character will try to figure out how he is going to deal with Joe West (Jesse L. Martin) Iris West (Candice Patton), and Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) and how they feel about him.
Meanwhile, "The Flash" executive producer Andrew Kreisberg recently told Entertainment Weekly, "If you're a fan of the comics, you know that a big part of the comics is Velocity 9."
