IFC's "Portlandia" recently returned with its fifth season and stars Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein talked about what fans and viewers will expect in the show's fifth run, Daily-Chronicle reported.
The satirical sketch comedy returned to televisions on Jan. 8 and former "Saturday Night Live" cast member Armisen and Wild Flag lead singer Brownstein said there was a lot in store this season.
"I would say raw milk plays heavily. I would say the world of modeling, which we never really got into. Health care, a whole episode on that. And Fourth of July," Armisen said, adding that it was medical care as a whole and not Obamacare.
Brownstein also shared that the comedy show is going to give viewers a glimpse into the lives of their characters and their semi-mythical city, which will come together as a big story by the end of the season's 10-episode run.
It was a step away from the show's usual half hour sketches, so much so that she claimed, "It really felt like a different show."
It was a needed change however, as both stars admitted that there were many other impressive comedy sketch shows viewers see on TV.
The change in direction might bode well for "Portlandia" though, especially when facing the likes of "Inside Amy Schumer," "Review," "Key & Peele" and "Broad City," according to A.V. Club.
There are still upsides this year though, as Armisen was nominated for an Emmy Award as Outstanding Supporting Actor. Comedy legend Jerry Seinfield even called the show "the best comedy on TV right now, and easily one of the best comedies of all time."
The pair remain positive though and despite other gigs, high profile or not, they weren't shy when talking about their love for the show during an interview with People.
"We surprise each other a lot," Brownstein added, saying how fun it was to film the show, with Armisen adding, "We crack up all the time."
"Portlandia" airs every Thursday at 10 p.m. on IFC.
