Mtime, China's leading movie website, recently unveiled Mtime PRO, an app that offers box-office tracking and movie merchandising services.
The industry-targeted app, which went live in Chinese on Dec. 10, provides accurate and detailed Chinese box-office data and helps facilitate merchandising deals directly with various local cinema chains.
Mtime PRO's English-language version will be rolled out in the next six months.
According to Mtime founder and CEO Kelvin Hou, "Mtime PRO is a one-stop shop for theatrical e-commerce and movie professionals."
"In addition to the great ease with which theater owners will now be able to stock their merchandise, the analyses offered here are truly unparalleled--studio executives will be able to immediately track their box-office performance and theater owners will know more about their competitors than ever before," Hou said.
Hou also shared that their firm has "partnered with theaters in over 500 cities, covering over 95 percent of box office."
"We also partner with government tracking agencies and private research firms; [and] as the leading online ticketing company, we are tracking millions of users' daily booking behaviors and data, plus pre-sale data," he furthered.
Launched in 2005 by the former Microsoft executive, what started as a movie listings site has quickly grown to become a local IMDb-slash-Rotten Tomatoes-slash-Entertainment Tonight-like portal.
The company, which claims to have a 170 million strong unique visitors per month, also launched its e-commerce arm this year. It serves as a sales platform for licensed movie merchandising.
Additionally, Mtime has revealed its plans for brick-and-mortar stores in theater chains across the country. Analysts see this series of moves as a platform for the firm's ambitious goal to create an online-to-offline retail model.
