The national ecological demonstration zone Pinggu is set on becoming the venue for the 2020 World Leisure Assembly. It is currently actively bidding for the State Council's approval.
Called the "East Beijing Green Valley," Pinggu is located at the northeast side of Beijing, just adjacent to the municipalities of Hebei and Tianjin. Surrounded by mountains, the scenic views offered by Pinggu makes it a worthy contender to hold the 2020 World Leisure Assembly.
Aside from its scenic views, Pinggu's income also reached 2.9 million yuan last year, signifying an 8-percent increase, ranking second in Beijing.
Moreover, complementary policies have already been established to transform the area from sightseeing into leisure. More would be done to promote rural tourism as well as landscape construction.
The government would also integrate agricultural, commercial, cultural, as well as sport tourism into the area. Facilities that would make the area conducive for leisure activities, the navigation system, as well as the traffic situation would all be added or enhanced for the purpose.
Pinggu has already undergone renovations in 2014. Around 17 neighborhoods have already been amped for the purpose of making it a leisure area. The Chinese government has already set up 660,000 square meters of energy-saving buildings. Damaged pavements and public toilets are now repaired and running.
The government also introduced a low-carbon lifestyle, so that a clean environment could be ensured. To improve the transportation system of the area, the government already added a hundred of new natural gas buses as well as 50 electric taxis designed to meet the demand of the visitors once the area becomes a leisure hotspot.
Around 1,500 public bicycles are also put into services. Plants can also be seen lining main streets and outlying zones.
