The NBA Trade rumors exploded with the news that Dwight Howard is 'unhappy' with the Houston Rockets.
The report was made by Chris Sheridan of Sheridan Hoops claimed that "Dwight Howard is extremely unhappy in Houston playing second fiddle to alpha dog James Harden" and that he would demand a trade.
Also, he said that the "destination that makes the most sense is Miami in a trade centered around Hassan Whiteside."
However, Whiteside does not have much trade value because of his low contract and his status as a free agent without Bird Rights. The Miami Heat needs cap space to keep Whiteside but they also need it to sign Dwyane Wade.
Perhaps the trade could involve another Miami Heat player and that could be Chris Bosh. Bosh was named by SI.Com as one of four NBA stars that could be traded at the deadline.
As the article pointed out, "Bosh has a lot of value around the league" and if the Heat does not perform as expected they may elect to move Bosh. This will give then "the added bonus is that it gives them that much more of a clean slate to attract Durant."
Where will they send Bosh? The Rockets coveted Bosh in free agency, and the Rockets could send Howard to acquire him. Houston has developed young center Clint Capela to be a competent defensive big man so they could afford to lose Howard. Getting Bosh would be great for them and could change their fortunes altogether.
For the Miami Heat, they still have Hassan Whiteside so they don't need Howard. They could flip Dwight Howard to the Boston Celtics. If Cousins will not be traded, the Celtics will still be left without a big man. Howard could be the next best option.
The Celtics could send David Lee's expiring contract and young assets like Tyler Zeller and Marcus Smart-pieces that the Heat would ask for. They could also throw in one of their first round picks, possibly the Brooklyn Nets or the Dallas Mavericks' pick.
The Heat will gain a lottery pick and cap flexibility in exchange for Bosh, and they will still have Wade, Whiteside and Dragic. That's a solid option for Kevin Durant.
The trade checks out on the ESPN trade machine. This is one alternative that the teams can explore if they really want to try and change their teams.
