The Chicago Bulls doesn't have a rich history of mid-season trades but this season marks a transition for them.
It is likely that this team as we know it would break up, but they have so much talent to just throw this season away.
Joakim Noah is a vital cog in establishing the Bulls' identity and trading him is a definite death knell to the Tom Thobodeau era, and that's exactly what the team is planning to do according to Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski (h/t Fox Sports).
"I've been told that the Bulls are open to...whether it's Joakim Noah, Taj Gibson...maybe not both of them, but either of them if there's a deal out there that they can bring in the best possible wing player available, they're open to it...They need more shooting."
With that established, Hoops Habit suggested that the Washington Wizards make a play for the veteran center. The Wizards are languishing outside the playoff picture and it would not bode well for them to sell the team to Kevin Durant as a contender when they can't even make the postseason.
The Wizards resident center Marcin Gortat has had his struggles and Noah will present a more dynamic option because of his defense and passing skills.
It would be very beneficial for the Wizards to convert Nene's expiring contract into someone very useful like Noah, but to do so they need to send one of their wings-Otto Porter or Kelly Oubre to the Bulls.
If the Wizards would really want to pull the trigger, they could send Porter but probably ask for draft considerations in the future.
The Bulls would agree to this as Nene is an expiring contract (like Noah) and would not be much of a consequence. The addition of Porter would fill in their gap at the small forward position as starter Mike Dunleavy is still injured.
