"Joy" co-stars Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper recently received positive remarks from the film's director David O. Russell.
In an interview with NPR, Russell revealed that "Joy" wouldn't have been a reality if it wasn't for "The Hunger Games" alum.
Russell added that he and the actress discovered the story together, so they knew that it would only be right to team up on the project.
In the film, Lawrence plays the role of Joy Mangano, the inventor of the Miracle Mop.
According to the director, Lawrence gave her role justice.
"Oh, unquestionably, I think Jennifer Lawrence is that inside of herself. As long as I've known her she's been both ten years old and 50 years old. And we've watched her grow up since she walked on 'Silver Linings Playbook' as a 20-year-old and had not been - 'Hunger Games' had not come out. And I've watched her take on and deal with a great deal of attention and resources and people," he said.
During a separate interview with GQ magazine, Russell also talked about Cooper.
"Early on, he had a more boyish quality. Which we leaned into in 'Silver Linings.' Over the last five years, I've watched him become a man. I watched him onstage in 'The Elephant Man' three times - it's extraordinary," he said.
Russell also said that he is pleased with all of the projects wherein Cooper and Lawrence worked together. This includes "The Silver Linings Playbook" and "American Hustle."
"Joy" premiered in theaters in the United States on Dec. 25.
