The Phoenix Suns are now thrust in turmoil with Tyson Chandler stuck in the middle.
The Suns traded away players to allow them cap space for chasing LaMarcus Aldridge. One of those players was Marcus Morris and it should be remembered that trading Marcus away was the cause of the Markieff Morris fiasco.
To strengthen their argument for Aldridge, the Suns signed Chandler, assuring LMA that they're not playing him at center (reportedly the reason why Aldridge did not pick the NY Knicks).
Aldridge eventually chose the San Antonio Spurs and Chandler, albeit taking on an elder statesman role, is not a good fit with the young, guard-centric Suns. Today's Fastbreak suggested trading him away, for the good of the team and even Chandler himself.
"Trade Morris and center Tyson Chandler for draft picks or young players to build with. Chandler has been a mentor to Alex Len, but at the same time the Suns could be expected to get fair value for him from a contender," TF's Jack Magruder wrote. "For the money spent on Chandler in a cart-before-the-horse move, a lure to free agent LaMarcus Aldrdige that'll cost the Suns $52 million over four years."
There are contenders or playoff teams who could use Chandler's defensive prowess to improve their stature, and one of those could be the Charlotte Hornets. In a Real GM forum thread, a center swap between Al Jefferson and Tyson Chandler was suggested.
As the Charlotte Hornets discovered offensive weapons this season in Kemba Walker, Nic Batum and even Jeremy Lamb/Lin, they no longer need a post-ball stopper like Big Al. They would be better off using the slot for defense (which Big Al is not good at).
However, one point raised is that Jefferson is an expiring contract-which is a relief to the Suns. Also, Phoenix is the team pressured to deal Chandler, thus the Suns may need to add picks considering Chandler's contract will tie down the Hornets.
