"Transformers: The Last Knight" will finally be released on June 23, 2017.

Previous reports indicated that "Transformers" franchise creators Steven Spielberg, Michael Bay, and Lorenzo di Bonaventura have appointed Akiva Goldman to head the writers' room whose members will devise ideas for "Transformers 5," believed to be seen over the next 10 years.

According to MNR Daily, the group comprised of "Lost" scriptwriter Jeff Pinkner, "The Walking Dead" creator Robert Kirkman, and "The Incredible Hulk" screenwriter Zak Penn among others. However, latest reports show that Kirkman unveiled that he was only in the writers' room for a limited period.

Speaking during the promotion of the upcoming Cinemax series "Outcast" at the SXSW 2016, Kirkman told Collider, "I have to say, I was only in that room for a day before I found out that I was having my throat surgery that kept me out of Comic Con."

During the interview, Kirkman revealed how he ended up being involved in the "Transformers" writers' room, pointing out that di Bonaventura chose his comic book "Invincible" and that he was called to be part of the team during lunch with the franchise creator.

Kirkman explained, "As much as I love 'Transformers,' I had to go...I had to leave that room. I wasn't in it as much as I wanted to be."

"The Walking Dead" creator added that he had heard a lot from colleagues in the writers' room, and amazing stuff is on the way. He expressed his enthusiasm to fans about what was in store for the "Transformers" franchise.

Meanwhile, 2015 saw Kirkman writing a blog post to apologize to fans that he will not be attending Comic Con because he was to have a minor surgery on his throat. He said that he plans to be part of this year's Comic Con, but until then, he will be catching up on work and eating a lot of ice cream.

Filming of the upcoming movie is set to commence in May this year in Detroit and other places worldwide. "Transformers 5" debuts on June 23, 2017.
