New "Transformers 5" will feature the return of Michael Bay, a rumored "G.I. Joe" crossover and future sequels to be based on the "Prime Wars" trilogy.
"Transformers" franchise director Michael Bay confirmed that he will be returning to the director seat to helm "Transformers 5". Bay told Rolling Stones during an interview session, that pre-production for "Transformers 5" will be happening soon as he plans on releasing the fifth instalment in the summer of 2017.
Bay is currently promoting his new film "13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi", in addition serving as producer for TMNT sequel "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows" starring Megan Fox, Stephen Amell, Will Arnett and Brian Tee. Bay jokingly stated that he almost lost track on what he is doing due to the many upcoming projects that he has been doing.
It was initially rumored that Bay will not be directing the fifth instalment due to the mediocre success of "Transformers: Age of Extinction" in the box office. This led to the speculation that Bay will be replaced to helm "Transformers 5" and "TMNT" director Jonathan Liebesman was rumored to fill in for him. But now that Bay will be heading back to the director's seat, fans will expect another action-packed sequel.
Aside from Bay returning as director, American Toy company Hasbro stated that they will be incorporating the "Prime Wars" trilogy across every medium from comics, toys, video games etc. Hasbro teased that the "Prime Wars" trilogy could be used in "Transformers" film franchise in future sequels, The Hollywood Reporter reported.
Since "Transformers 5" could be forefront for future sequels, there will be a possibility that the "Prime Wars" trilogy could be used in future storylines after the sequel.
The fifth instalment is said to be divided into two parts as Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg) and the Autobots will be defending the earth from Galvatron and the Decepticons, while part 2 will feature Optimus Prime confronting their makers, the Quintessons.
Lastly, Paramount Pictures will be embarking on a business deal with other Hasbro toy brands such as M.A.S.K. (Mobile Armored Strike Kommand), Micronauts, ROM, Visionaries and G.I. Joe. Paramount president and CEO Brian Goldner, Hasbro executive vice-president and chief content officer Stephen Davis and Film development head Josh Feldman will be working together to make this partnership work as Film writer Akiva Goldsman is currently planning on new ideas for the "Transformers" film series and cited future sequels, spin-offs, crossovers and an animated prequel featuring the early days of the Autobot and Decepticon war.
There are rumors making rounds that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Bruce Willis will be part of "Transformers 5" as the two Hollywood action stars were first spotted in "G.I. Joe: Retaliation". Goldsman is slated to compose the "G.I. Joe" sequels, could this mean that a "Transformers" and G.I. Joe" crossover will be in the works soon.
"Transformers 5" movie is scheduled to be release in cinemas on summer 2017.
