OnePlus 2 Android 6.0 Marshmallow update: OS with Oxygen OS 3.0 being tested

| Mar 22, 2016 04:47 AM EDT

OnePlus 2 Android smartphone was announced in July 2015, and features 3G, 5.5″ LTPS IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen, 13 MP camera, Wi-Fi, GPS, and Bluetooth.

OnePlus 2 users could soon have a mobile experience of the latest Android Marshmallow Operating system on their smartphones. This follows reports highlighting that the company is currently carrying out tests of the OS with its Oxygen OS 3.0 version.

According to Android Police, screenshots exhibiting the OnePlus 2 running on Android Marshmallow were recently leaked online disclosing the tests. The shots also showed the Oxygen OS 3.0 along with the aforementioned OS.

The update appeared to bring fresh customizations on the home screen, wallpapers, a slider for controlling alerts, and a new Floating Action Button for widgets. It also brought an assortment of new emojis along other features like Do not disturb mode, and Doze mode; functions that are currently universal for the Android M.

Not long ago, OnePlus released the Oxygen 2.2.1 update which also came with new features. They included Bluetooth compatibility improvement, raw support in OnePlus camera, improvements in ultra SIM compatibility, GMS 3.0 update, a fix for the occasional image corruption issue in the OnePlus camera, development on roaming issues and a security patch update.

Since then, the company has not confirmed the testing of Android Marshmallow. However, judging from commentaries of Android experts and the phone's specs, the OnePlus 2 smartphone is capable of supporting Android Marshmallow. It houses a v.21 Snapdragon 810 processor which is backed up by 3 or 4GB of RAM and 16 and 64GB internal storage options.

It has a 5.5-inch Full-HD display, a USB Type-C port, an alert slider, and a battery with a whopping capacity of 3300 mAh.  As for imaging enthusiasts, the device offers a 13 MP rear camera with IOS, a dual-LED flash and laser autofocus as well as a 5 MP front camera.

Many Android manufacturers have failed to fulfill their promises of delivering Android M. It is notable that until now, only flagship smartphones from Sony, HTC and Samsung have received their updates.

Oneplus 2 is soon expected to join the list. Still, the company is yet to fulfill its promise of delivering Android Marshmallow in the first quarter of this year. And to make the matters worse, the current tests have been referred to as mere soak tests by PC-Tablet. This is because it has been rumored that OnePlus is probably testing the presence of bugs before rolling the OS out.

Meanwhile, OnePlus 2 users can manually check for updates by going to Settings > About Phone > System Updates.
