Sohu TV Ventures into Korean Sports Drama ‘Oh Volleyball’

Riding high on the success of Korean drama "Descendants of the Sun" on Chinese video streaming site iQiyi, another Chinese streaming site launched on Wednesday a sport-themed Korean drama.

"Oh Volleyball" is the result of a collaboration between Kim Jong Hyuk Studio in South Korea and Sohu TV, a video streaming site in China. It is the first self-produced sport-themed Korean drama by Sohu TV which held a fan meet in Beijing on Wednesday.

The new show is about a volleyball player who is at the peak of her sports career and is forced to quit. But the does not give up the sport because she is hired as a coach of a volleyball team at a local high school. In her new job, she will try to raise young Koreans into a top volleyball team capable of competing in national games, according to Global Times.

Sohu TV said that after “Descendants of the Sun” showed the success of a Chinese-South Korean collaboration, Korean drama fans from the two countries could expect more similar viewing fare in the future. Kim Jong Hyuk Studio was the producer of the popular TV show “High Quality Love.”

So far, neither Sohu TV nor Kim Jong Hyuk Studio has announced who are the stars of “Oh Volleyball,” how many episodes it would have and when will it air.

Sohu TV is behind the dramas “Cheonggu Fox,””Good Luck Coming,” “Two Women in War” and “Grasshopper.”
