iPhone 6S vs Lumia 950 XL: Is Microsoft's new phone better than Apple's flagship handset?

Microsoft recently released Lumia 950 XL, and the company has since dubbed their most recent offering as the "cheaper and better version of the iPhone."

Apple is the second best-selling smartphone manufacturer in the world - second only to Samsung - as the tech giant holds 15 percent of global smartphone users. While the statistics surrounding Apple's sales remain positive, it seems like another phone might just bump the iPhone from its lofty spot. Microsoft recently released Lumia 950 XL, and the company has since dubbed their most recent offering as the "cheaper and better version of the iPhone."

How does the Lumia 950 XL fare against the iPhone 6S? Below is a comparison of both strong smartphone contenders.

According to Apple.com, the iPhone 6S, which was released back in September 2015, is equipped with a 4.70-inch touch-screen with a resolution of 750 pixels by 1334 pixels at a PPI of 326 pixels per inch.

With regards to its software, the iPhone6S is ran by A9 processor with 2GB of RAM. The phone's base storage is 16GB, which is unfortunately not expandable.

One thing that people are ecstatic about this particular Apple iPhone is the impeccable quality of its camera. The iPhone 6S packs a 12 megapixel primary camera on the rear and a 5 megapixel front shooter for selfies.

The iPhone 6S also runs on iOS 9, which is the latest operating system that Apple developed, and powered by powered by a 1715mAh battery. The phone measures at 138.30 x 67.10 x 7.10 (height x width x thickness) and weighs 143.00 grams.

On the other hand, the Lumia 950 XL, according to Hothardware.com, is packed with all the latest hardware available such as a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 SoC clocked at up to 2GHz, 3GB of RAM, USB 3.1, a QHD AMOLED display, and a bevy of sensors. Unlike the iPhone 6S, the Lumia 950 XL offers a dual sim capabilities.

The Lumia 950 XL also got its recent update called the Forced HDR, which meant that people could automatically trigger the HDR feature of the phone anytime, unlike before where the HDR option only appears when the phone allows it to. The Lumia 950 XL also had an update and upgrade which allowed the battery consumption to slow down too. Yet another thing, Apple has yet to add to its iPhone 6s.

When it comes to their pricing, the iPhone 6S is currently priced at $649 - lower than when it was released back in September - while, the Lumia 950 XL is priced at $530, which is $119 cheaper than the iPhone.
