'Gears of War 4' multiplayer beta preview, early reactions

'Gears of War 4' is an upcoming third-person shooter video game developed by The Coalition, and published by Microsoft Studios for Xbox One.

The Coalition's "Gears of War 4" multiplayer beta was just released on April 18 for all players who had played "Gears of War Ultimate" before this week. It will then, on April 25, open up to everyone who has an Xbox Live Gold account.

For those who have already played the game, some reactions have already surfaced. It seems that The Coalition is now embracing "the intimate" gear violence, which some players say is almost violent to the point of comedy, Lazy Gamer reported. According to what they witnessed in the game, the scattered internal organs of a shotgun blast is just like a "popped balloon."

Some admit that this is kind of dirty, but also an exaggerated joke, with the Dropshot, one of the new weapons, typifying this claim. Apart from this, "Gear of Wars 4" has also introduced one more new power weapon.

The Coalition's preliminary intention was to characterize these two new weapons, something that several gamers think was not a success. In other words, the weapons have not achieved their intended alterations when compared to the existing weapons.

In terms of intimacy, "Gears of War 4" has added a "Close Cover Combat" feature that enables the destruction of enemies. The "yank and shank" allows a player to snatch an enemy from the other side of the cover with much vigor and ferocity. Once they are on the player's side of the wall, then they can execute them with a knife.

The new offerings of the game get rounded out by two new multiplayer modes; Escalation and Dodge Ball, plus a bot-enabled Co-op Versus mode. Escalation will get detailed more heavily at PAX east, but it will be the main competitive offering in "Gears of Wars 4" eSports ambitions.

There is also a spectator screen with four camera options, which are meant to help make the multiplayer watchable. Dodgeball represents a  fun play mode where a player is capable of bringing back a teammate's life after they die by scoring a kill, and staying alive afterwards for five seconds.

"Gears of War 4" for a single-player will be 30fps while the multiplayer will be 60fps at 1080p on Xbox One, Eurogamer reported. However, it is expected that the experience with the beta might vary for different players.

When "Gears of War 4" is finally launched in October, it will include 10 maps including Gridlock, after which "1 to 3" will be added each month.
