Verizon users of LG G2 have received the Android Marshmallow update.
Recently, a LG G2 device on the Verizon network was seen with the Android Marshmallow update. This led to speculations that the update may finally roll out for the old device.
Futhermore, it seems unlikely that network carrier T-Mobile will release the Android Marshmallow update for LG G2. It is not mentioned under the carrier's official list of devices getting the latest operating system update, according to its support page.
Regarding the other network carriers such as AT&T, Sprint, and US Cellular there has been no confirmed word, as to when they plan to release the update, or if at all. LG G2 has not received the update in other countries, as well.
On the other hand, Cyanogenmod has also released a custom ROM for the device. However, the custom Android Marshmallow ROM is expected to work for only selected models.
In the past, there has been a lot of confusion whether LG G2 will receive the latest operating system update or not. It was earlier rumored to be left out of all the LG flagship devices for the Android Marshmallow update.
Moreover, LG G2 is over three years old, as it was launched in Aug. 2013. It is packed with a Snapdragon 800 Qualcomm MSM8974 chipset, according to GSM Arena. It was launched with Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2 out of the box, which was subsequently upgraded to Android Lollopop.
Additionally, it was earlier thought to be non-hardware compatible with Android Marshmallow, as it had just 2 GB RAM and an old chipset. Hence, there were reports that the Android Marshmallow update would not release for the three-years old flagship device.
On the other hand, LG G2's successor, the LG G3 has been updated to Android Marshmallow. Verizon was the first network carrier to release the update for the device. Other carriers, such as T-Mobile and AT&T have followed suit and are currently releasing the update. However, there has been no word as to when US Cellular and Sprint will release the Android Marshmallow update for their users.
