Janet Jackson, sister of late pop icon Michael Jackson, is an American singer, songwriter, dancer and actress, best known for "Unbreakable," and "All For You."

Janet Jackson, sister of late pop icon Michael Jackson, is pregnant with her first child at the age of 49.

The news came after the singer, who will turn 50 on May 16, announced last month that she will be postponing her second leg of tour to concentrate on her family with her husband Wissam Al Mana. She took to Twitter to upload a video to inform about the delay, saying that she and her husband are planning to start a family.

A source told ET that Janet is in her second trimester of pregnancy. The couple was reportedly trying to conceive for a long time and have been working with a fertility specialist for a while.

"Well, I hope so. People say that, but I hope so," gushed the singer on being told by the publisher's rep that she would be the greatest mother in the world.

The youngest child of the popular Jackson family tied the knot with her Qatari businessman boyfriend in a secret wedding in 2012, but did not make it official till early 2013. Earlier, during the midst of her break-up with record producer Jermaine Dupri, Janet had declared during an interview, that she would love to have children and was even open to the idea of adoption.

Janet also seemingly believed it was 'God's will' whether she would ever be able to have children. She declared in one of her interviews that she hoped that her legacy would be bringing smiles to faces.

Janet is not the only women to have conceived in her late 40s. Both Kelly Preston and Geena Davis had children at 48. Halle Berry gave birth at 46 while "Today Extra" host Sonia Kruger gave birth to her daughter Maggie at age 49.

It is extremely rare for women of Janet's age to become pregnant naturally. Those who want to conceive in late 40s do so via IVF, either using their own eggs they had frozen during their childbearing years, donor eggs from younger women or embryos made from donor eggs.

"When you get to my age, to use your own eggs to have a baby, you're not really going to be successful," News.com quoted Kruger as saying.
