Electronic Arts and DICE Reveals Battlefield 1 in Reveal Trailer

Developer DICE and publisher Electronic Arts have revealed that the next installation for their warfare FPS simulator is Battlefield 1 instead of the anticipated Battlefield 5.

Another interesting bit in the reveal is that the developers seem to be taking a step backwards. Instead of futuristic warfare like what the new Call of Duty has in store for players, the new Battlefield 1 title will be set in the First World War.

EA and DICE have released the reveal trailer for Battlefield 1 which contains the gameplay footage. As always, the game does not disappoint graphics-wise but what would happen with the gameplay and story?

Danny Berlin, the lead game designer, said that people often think that the era did not have enough guns and weapons. However, he said that the war made great minds invent all sorts of "weapons all the time," according to Polygon.

The trailer shows mostly muddy trenches which were often the settings in the war. There are also parts where the player would be able to fly bi-planes over mountains and valleys full of firefights and such.

Another reveal was that Battlefield 1 would bring more importance for hand-to-hand combat. One part in the trailer showed an enemy hitting someone with a mace.

Vehicles would also play a large part in the new game from DICE and EA. However, it won't be just trucks; there would also be bombers, armored trucks, light tanks and even massive Zeppelins.

"When we set out on this game, we wanted to depict not just the common view of what the war was like. We wanted to challenge some preconceptions. We want to delve into some of the unknowns of World War One," Berlin told VentureBeat.

Story-wise, Berlin also said that they will be touching "different personalities" around the globe. He added that there is no time travel and that they were simply providing a modern take on the First World War.

For multiplayer, DICE said that it will be huge with 64-player maps. Players will have to mix and match vehicles with their choice of weapons to dominate the war.

Battlefield 1 will be released on October 21 but it will be available to be played by visitors during the EA Play event in June. Xbox One and Windows PC users will also be part of an early access program.
