The box office success of "Captain America: Civil War" in the Chinese and global markets has encouraged a Chinese movie company to produce a superhero movie with a Chinese protagonist.

Fangjin Media (Beijing) signed an agreement with the directors of Marvel franchise last two movies to produce a "Captain China" character and movie. Joe and Anthony Russo agreed to create an action sci-fi trilogy, reported Quartz.

The timetable under the deal is to produce by the end of 2016 the first film “The Hero’s Awakening” which would be scheduled for exhibition in early 2018, disclosed Su Zhenping, spokesperson n Fangjin Media.

A character, Captain China, actually exists already in a comics published for years by Excel Comics in the U.S. But the film would be not be based on the comic hero who is a survivor of the Mao era and is an “enhanced soldier.” Captain China slept for half a century and woke up in the current generation.

The perfect government propaganda image, Captain China wears a costume made from the national flag and police cap. The weapon that the superhero uses is a Mauser pistol that Red Army troopers used during the Second World War.

However, the superhero that Fangjin and the Russo brothers would create has the ability to control things with his mind. He is a regular guy who leads a normal human life until he realizes he has special powers.

The first movie would have a budget of $53 million, part of the total $230 million for the trilogy. The brothers directed “Nirvana” and “The Hero’s Sacrifice” which are scheduled to be shown in China in 2019 and 2020, respectively.

Fangjin Media was established in 2005 and has produced several movies that has won in international film festivals (IFF). The company’s award-winning films include “The Sun Beaten Path” which won at the 30th Vancouver IFF in 2011.
