NVIDIA will still need to reveal the GTX 1060 which is for those who are really on a tight budget but also badly need to upgrade their video card on their gaming rig.
After unveiling the GTX 1080 and the GTX 1070, many have thought that the latter would instantly be the budget-conscious choice. However, NVIDIA is still hiding a trick up their sleeve: the GTX 1060.
Of course, the lower tier video card will have less powerful specs. It would still use GDDR5 but only 256 bits which would easily translate to either 4GB or 8GB for the VRAM.
One recent shipping entry for a GP106 spotted on Zauba may finally be the NVIDIA GTX 1060, WCCFTech has learned. Unfortunately, it did not show how much the video card would cost for consumers.
The new GPU also seems to use a die size of about 200mm squared which could translate to 1280 CUDA cores in total. It would still be more powerful than the previous generation cards such as the GTX 970 or the GTX 960.
NVIDIA has not yet unveiled anything about the GTX 1060 but they have not denied it either. The company could also launch a GTX 1060 Ti variant which would raise the game a bit, TweakTown reported.
In terms of CUDA cores, the cheaper video card would have half of the GTX 1080. It may not directly mean that the performance would instantly be halved.
Still, the GTX 1070's CUDA cores is higher than the GTX 1060 at 1920 compared to 1280 if the reports are to be correct. It could be NVIDIA's secret weapon to go up against the new Polaris GPUs that AMD will unveil in a couple of weeks.
Budget has been the number one problem for those who would like to setup a gaming rig. The GTX 1070 is already at $379 which means that the next mid-range card would probably fair within the $200 to $300 range.
NVIDIA fans will have to wait for the official announcement regarding the pricing and specs of the GTX 1060. It is expected to arrive on shelves by fall which is just a few weeks after the June release of the GTX 1070.
