The upcoming historical film, 'Battleship Island,' will star Hwang Jeong-min, So Ji-sub and Song Joong-ki.

The upcoming "Battleship Island" movie, starring Song Joong Ki, So Ji Sub and Hwang Jung-Min, will be filmed using the virtual 3D production.

Around two months before the cast and crew members kick off the filming, most recent news claim that 40 percent of the scenes from the highly anticipated movie is expected to feature a computer-generated imagery (CGI) and virtual production. Apart from the fact that the CGI aims to make the stunt or effect look all the more genuine, Global Virtual Production Support Project also aims to promote Korea's domestic virtual production industry.

The company giant is poised to provide up to 200 million won (approximately $168,658) in cash support for the movie's post-production stages. The good news came to light when the SongSong Couple - Philippines posted a screenshot on their official Facebook page on May 19, Thursday. The post received more than 303 likes as of this writing.

It was earlier reported that the production team is poised to recreate the 6-hectare Hashima Island (Gunkanjima) at the former United States' Army base, Camp Page aka K-47 Air Base, situated in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province, South Korea. The public land development office of Chuncheon, Gangwon Province, and Filmmaker R&K has already signed the lease for the area to be used for shooting the film on March 30.

"The city's economy will revitalize as film staff members stay here. Also, we expect many Hallyu fans from inside and outside of the country to visit [the city] during the shooting," Kpop Herald quoted an official of the city as saying.

"Battleship Island" is poised to uncover the concealed dark history of 16-acre Island that was known for its undersea coal mines. It follows the heartbreaking story of around 400 forced Korean laborers, who desperately attempt to escape from the said perilous island after they experienced exceptional brutal treatment from Japanese soldiers prior to and during the World War II.

Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Ryo Seung Wan, the film is intended to be released in early 2017 by CJ Entertainment in theaters across South Korea. Check out the video below for more information:
