The countdown to KBS's "Hwarang: The Beginning" has begun. The broadcasting giant company just announced that the upcoming TV period drama, starring Park Seo Joon, Go Ara, Choi Minho, and Park Hyung Sik, will finally hit the airwaves in December.
A representative from KBS's drama department confirmed the exciting news on May 18, Wednesday, but stressed that the exact details are not yet final.
"It is true that it is expected to air in December," Soompi quoted the representative from KBS's drama department as saying. "However, we are still in discussion regarding whether it will be a Monday-Tuesday drama or Wednesday-Thursday drama."
The cast and crew members of the highly anticipated historical period drama recently began filming on March 31. It was earlier reported that "Hwarang: The Beginning" will be a fully pre-produced drama following the equivocal success of the recent "Descendants of the Sun," which aired on KBS2 from Feb. 24 to April 22, on Wednesdays and Thursdays 22:05 (KST) time slot for 19 episodes.
It is said that the filming will most likely be complete in early to mid-July, as the content of the drama will reportedly then be edited for the entirety of August. Afterwards, it will inevitably be reviewed in China considering that the producers of the show intended to broadcast its 20 episodes' simultaneously in South Korea and mainland China this December.
"Hwarang: The Beginning" recounts the tale of an elite group of young aristocratic warriors, the Flower Knights, who grows through passion and love in the Kingdom of Silla, 1500 years ago. Seven young people with seven diverse hues are said to be the main focus of the drama.
Seo Joon is up to play the daring and powerful, Moo Myung aka Sun Woo Rang, a young man of low birth who gradually transforms into a legendary Hwarang warrior. ZE:A's Hyung Sik will be playing the 24th ruler of Silla, Sam Maek Jong aka King Jinheung, who reign the kingdom from 540 to 576.
"Reply 1994's" Go Ara plays the half-noble, half plebeian, A-Ro, a young lady with a lively vitality and a strong work ethic. She is poised to be the love interest of the two great warriors - Moo Myung and Sam Maek Jong, Drama Beans reported.
The upcoming drama also stars Minho, Kim Kwang Kyu, Jo Yoon Woo, V, Kim Chang Wang, Choi Won Young, Yoo Jae Myung, Kim Ji Su and Do Ji Han. Actor Lee Kwang Soo is also poised to have a cameo appearance in the show.
The drama is directed by Yung Seong-Sik taking into the script that was penned by screenwriter Park Eun Young. Check out the video below:
