Author George R. R. Martin confirmed that the "Winds of Winter" release is not happening in May. He also revealed that a lot of deaths are in the pipeline in the book series.
Martin wrote on his blog Not a Journal that the book "Winds of Winter" is still incomplete and he is trying his best to finish it soon. Hence, it is highly unlikely that the book will release in May.
The last published book in the "A Song of Ice and Fire" series released in 2011 and since then the world is waiting anxiously for "Winds of Winter." There is another book in this series "A Dream of Spring," which is yet to be released.
The first book in the series "A Game of Thrones" was released in 1996, followed by "A Clash of Kings" in 1998 and "A Storm of Swords" in 2000. Then there was a delay of five years before "A Feast of Crows" was released in 2005.
In an interview with Galaxy's Edge, Martin talked about his fascination with death in the book series. He said that it is a tool, which he uses to advance the story.
Martin also revealed that as an author of a novel about wars and violence it is highly impossible to keep everyone alive in the series. The heroes and the enemies in the book face the same fate when it comes to death. They go to wars and come back brutally wounded or dead.
The celebrated author also added that he would be cheating if he only killed the extras in the book and not the heroes because the violence in the war affects all of them equally. He also added that he loves all his characters and finds it extremely hard to kill them.
However, to be true to the story he kills them and then tries to mentally shift the blame to the other characters. He does not want to be bogged down with guilt for bumping off the heroes or some of his most-loved characters, so he takes this step.
