PayPal recently posted an announcement in their official homepage regarding the PayPal mobile app upgrade to version 6.0. The latest update of the app will only be supported by those mobile devices running with Android and iOS operating systems. PayPal will discontinue the PayPal mobile app for Blackberry, Microsoft and Kindle Fire mobile devices.

PayPal's Senior Vice President of Global Consumer Product and Engineering, Joanna Lambert said in her PayPal post on Thursday that it was a hard decision to make in discontinuing the PayPal mobile app for the three big players in the mobile devices industry. Lambert said, "We believe it's the right thing to ensure we are investing our resources in creating the very best experiences for our customers.

PayPal provided a timeframe for Android and iOS users to update their old version of PayPal mobile app starting from June 3 to June 30. PayPal mobile app users will be required to upgrade to the latest version which is 6.0. The only devices that can support the latest version are the ones running with Android OS 4.03 or higher and iOS 8.1 higher.

The Apple mobile devices that PayPal are referring to are iPod Touch 5th generation or higher, iPad 2 or higher and iPhone 4S or higher. Apple device users can download the app in Apple app store and Android users can download the app in Google Play.

For Windows mobile devices users, they can use the PayPal mobile app until June 30 only. Windows users can still use PayPal in transferring money online though but it will be with the use of Windows mobile browsers like Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge browsers. The PayPal add-in feature for Microsoft Outlook is still usable for sending money directly from their Outlook inbox.

Kindle Fire and Blackberry mobile devices will no longer support the PayPal mobile app after June 30. Kindle fire and Blackberry users will still have the access to PayPal in transferring money online but it will be with the use of their mobile web browsers.

PayPal apologized for any inconvenience that this may have caused but they want to assure their customers that they are committed to continue improving their mobile app service for the best possible way to manage and transfer money online.
