It is a big question for Marvel comics fans why the central character in the Avengers, Steve Rogers or commonly known as Captain America, has an uncertain fate. In the original source material, the identity of Captain America was passed down to different Marvel heroes who are close allies of Steve Rogers for many years.
Now, Marvel is bringing back Steve Rogers in the picture but with a twist. Before revealing the latest update of the return of Steve Rogers as Captain America, let us check his timeline as the original two star-spangled Marvel hero.
From 2007 to 2009, Steve Rogers was officially dead after the events that happened in the "Civil War." According to the synopsis posted in Marvel Wikia, Steve Rogers was taken into S.H.I.E.L.D.'s custody where he was killed by Sharon Carter -who was brainwashed by S.H.I.E.L.D.'s psychiatrist, Dr. Faustus. From then on, it was his bestfriend Bucky Barnes or widely known as the Winter Soldier who took the lead role of Captain America.
From 2010 to 20011, "Captain America: Reborn" brought back Steve Rogers on the ending part of the arc. Though he appeared again in the Captain America Marvel comics, he did not take back the role from Bucky Barnes. Steve Rogers stood as the new director of S.H.I.E.L.D.
From 2011 to 2014, Bucky Barnes faked his death when he fought with the Serpent in the "Fear Itself 7.1: Captain America." Barnes decided to go back to his real identity as the Winter Soldier and so, Steve Rogers held again the iconic shield of Captain America. Later within this timeline, Steve Rogers fought Iron Nail, the villain who sucked up the super soldier serum of Captain America out of his body leaving him vulnerable.
From 2014 to 2016, one of Steve Roger's close ally, Sam Wilson or also known as The Falcon took the identity of Captain for the time being. When Steve Roger's was rejuvenated with the serum, he again began to take the role of the original Captain America.
The latest update of Captain America in the present time that includes an unexpected twist is all about his loyalty. TIME reported that in "Captain America: Steve Rogers #1," Rogers is an agent from HYDRA.
Marvel executive editor, Tom Brevoort and story writer, Nick Spencer decided to bring back Steve Roger's youth after he was rejuvenated with the serum but putting him in great pressure. They want the readers to know how Captain America will react to the situation.
Brevoort does not want to disclose too much details about the recently released comic book so for those fans who want to know what will happen next, they should buy the "Captain America: Steve Rogers #1" edition.
