Nintendo NX could use cartridges again for physical media

Nintendo NX is expected to take on the PlayStation NEO and the Xbox Two in 2017 but GameStop has confirmed that it will have physical media which will be good for their business.

Earlier reports have claimed that the Nintendo NX would actually use cartridges as a tribute to the original NES consoles. The physical media comment from Gamestop reinforces the previous claims.

Most games today on the PC can just be downloaded from digital stores, reducing the need for physical disks. However, buying a copy of the game from a game store is faster for those who have no high-speed Internet connections at home.

GameStop has recently reported their quarterly earnings and they claimed that their hardware sales have dropped by nearly 29 percent, Gamenguide has learned. The company blames the lack of AAA games launched during the first quarter but the Nintendo NX could hopefully revive their sales considering that it will have physical media copies.

Digital downloads could still be possible considering that Nintendo filed a patent for a supplemental computing device that will connect to the Internet. It is also rumored to provide more processing power for smoother frame rates and better graphics.

Paul Raines from GameStop said that the Nintendo NX will allow pre-owned sales for the physical media, GamingBolt reported. It is not known yet what form of the physical copies will be.

The possible choices are the obvious discs and the more interesting cartridges that publications have claimed to be. There could even be a possibility that both forms of the media will be used with the latter having more value over time.

Nintendo NX is claimed to be more powerful than the PlayStation NEO and even the Xbox Two. The supplemental computing device could even make it better as it provides 4K resolution and 60 frames per second.

The Japanese video game company has not said anything yet regarding their new console. However, they have confirmed that it will be launched in 2017.

Fans will have to wait for the Nintendo NX announcement from the company to know whether it will have discs or cartridges for the physical media as GameStop has claimed. The power difference of the console against the PlayStation NEO and the Xbox Two would also be interesting.
