Microsoft is planning to launch a slim version of their Xbox One and an Xbox "Scorpio" which is claimed to be more powerful than the upcoming PlayStation NEO 4K from Sony.

The Redmond-based company has been playing second best when it came to the console wars against the PlayStation 4. Now, there are reports claiming that they will be launching a new Xbox One or a next-gen console dubbed as the Scorpio.

There will be a slimmer version of their current console which is also expected to be cheaper and lighter. However, it would pack a massive 2TB hard drive to store all of the games, DLCs and other files.

Microsoft will be announcing the slimmer version of the Xbox One at the E3 2016 event in June, TechCrunch has learned. The new version will be 40 percent smaller than the original.

The trade-off with the smaller size could be the removal of the Blu-ray player. Users can just download their copies and save it in the larger hard drive for playback.

Perhaps the more exciting development with regards to the Xbox Two is the new codename Scorpio. It has been claimed to be more powerful than the PlayStation NEO 4K which is already expected to make an appearance before the PlayStation VR.

Microsoft's plans for a more powerful Xbox One could just win them the hearts of more console gamers. Both of the new consoles are expected to have an output of 4K resolution plus 60 frames per second framerates for the games but the new console from Microsoft is expected to have 6 teraflops of processing power.

Xbox Two or Scorpio is not expected to be released until the later part of 2017, Polygon reported. The announcement could be coming next month or on E3 at the earliest.

Nintendo is also planning to launch their Nintendo NX hybrid console next year. The new Xbox One would then take on the Japanese videogame company's console too.

Xbox Scorpio could possibly take the top spot once it is released next year after the PlayStation NEO 4K. The cheaper and slimmer version of the Xbox One is also welcome for those who still want to experience the console.
