"Code Black" season 2 will continue to see lead star Marcia Gay Harden as Dr. Lianne Rorish, but not everyone will return for the upcoming episodes of the hit CBS series.

According to TV Line, cast members Raza Jaffrey and Bonnie Somerville have been axed from the series. Unfortunately, no concrete reason was given by both CBS and executive producer Michael Seitzman.

After the confirmation that two cast members have been axed, the network also confirmed that two guest stars have been upgraded to regular status.

Boris Kodjoe and Jillian Murray, who were both added to the series during the latter part of season 1, will both return to "Code Black" season 2 as regular cast members.

Immediately after the confirmation, fans reacted furiously online questioning CBS' decision to get rid of two actors only to add two other as regulars.

However, Seitzman immediately defended the network for their decision.

"No answer I give will be satisfying... It sucks. Nobody - nobody - enjoyed this. Decisions like this aren't easy and are very complex," he said.

With regards to Kodjoe and Murray's new status, Seitzman said, "Two things to remember. They didn't appear till late in the season, and they're in the OR not ER. I have some ideas."

Meanwhile, fans are still waiting for CBS to explain why they decided to get rid of Jaffrey and Somerville.

One fan @vonceyb wrote, "Bah, that's still not an answer about why the two leads were let go. The characters of Heather and Will are both unlikeable and Neal and Christa were part of the moral core of the show. So not interested in watching S2."

Fan @Just A Guess claimed that the axing may have to do with money.

"It's money. The show was probably renewed with a mandate to come in at a cheaper budget. I'd guess that they cut the two actors to hire two cheaper people in their place."

One fan referenced the sudden axing of two actors as what happened to "Grey's Anatomy" season 9.

"Budget cuts. Let go some more experienced actors and replace them with cheaper ones."

"Code Black" season 2 will premiere on CBS on Sept. 21.
