Changes are expected when ABC's fantasy show "Once Upon a Time" returns this fall for Season 6. The sixth season is said to have a different format as compared to the previous seasons.
Executive producers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz teased that the upcoming installment would not be split into two halves. Similarly, Hyde's (Sam Witwer) storyline will not wrap up in the first 11 episodes.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Kitsis said, "This season is going to be different from past because it's not going to be Hyde comes to town, we fight with him for 10 episodes, and then in the winter finale, he dies and we move on."
The producer added that they would go back to Season 1's perspective of small town narratives and smaller storylines. Horowitz pointed out that contrary to splitting up the narrative, they will offer a 22-episode arc that will be "really exciting and fun." According to Horowitz, fan-favorite characters will return to Storybrooke after spending much of Season 5 in the sphere of Untold Stories and the Underworld.
Having a different storyline according to Yahoo will provide producers a chance to explore characters differently. As hinted in Season 5 finale last year, seeing the Evil Queen (Lana Parilla) split allows producers to do the same for most of the characters. This will not happen literally, but turning inward on many characters that have featured in the show for the last five seasons.
Meanwhile, actress Parilla unveiled that her character Regina will be dealing with both the recurrence of her previous evil persona in the current day and the reality of Zelena (Rebecca Mader) having a baby with Robin (Sean Maguire). It will be significant for fans to establish whether Regina and Zelena will continue with their relationship.
Parilla is keen to find out what will transpire given that Zelena is the mother of Robin's child. A question to look for answers will be whether Regina will develop resentment that she cannot have children yet her sister has her boyfriend's baby.
