'Overwatch' update: New heroes, maps in production along with public test realms, server browser; Blizzard announce new 'Competitive Mode' details [VIDEO]

Overwatch is a multiplayer first-person shooter game developed by Blizzard Entertainment for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC platforms.

The latest details for "Overwatch" will feature new characters, maps, server browser, public test realms and "Competitive Mode" for the game soon.

Blizzard Entertainment announced that they will be announcing new heroes and maps for "Overwatch" soon as game director Jeff Kaplan stated that some of the characters are "far along", while the team in "getting started" on other characters.

"Overwatch" may feature prototype characters that may or may not be added into the game as Blizzard has not yet discussed their plans for the new heroes as they do not want to set big expectations for the fans and then something may came up and will force to come up with new strategies and plans. Two characters are already rumored to be part of "Overwatch" and these are Liao and Sombra.

There are also new maps being developed by Blizzard as one of them surpassed enough playtesting in order to be added into "Overwatch's" post-launch plans. Kaplan and his team are very confident about the production of new maps and they are currently prototype and test phases and they will decide if the desired map is efficient enough to be added within the game or scrapped, VG 24/7 reported.

In other news, Blizzard announced new game details on "Overwatch's" upcoming "Competitive Mode" this month as Kaplan stated it has been the teams main focus as of late.

Kaplan explained that the new "Competitive Mode" will feature a system that allows “directly correlate” a player’s skill rating to their matchmaking rating. In addition, their transparency over ratings as the player can also see their own skill ratings, as well as the team's overall average.

Blizzard is also taking steps on sudden deaths within "Overwatch" as it had a whopping 35 percent at the time, although they did not explain any further details on how will they solve it. There are also tweaks on assault maps such as Temple of Anubis and Hanamura allowing longer matches, Gamerant reported.

Kaplan added that they will have a public test realm for "Competitive Mode" so that they can promote it better before its launch on "Overwatch".

Blizzard will also announce other new features such as extended spectator mode, improvements on "Play of the Game", custom games and a new server browser for the game.

"Overwatch" is currently available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC platforms.
