Emilia Clarke plays Daenerys Targaryen in the HBO hit series "Game of Thrones."

"Game of Thrones" star Emilia Clarke seems excited over the prospect of a possible gay romance between her character, Daenerys Targaryen, and Yara Greyjoy (Gemma Whelan). The "Me Before You" actress has acknowledged the playful flirtation between the two characters in "Game of Thrones" Season 6 episode 9 "Battle of the Bastards."

"There's mild flirtation, which is exciting to say the least," says the actress in a behind-the-scenes video posted by HBO shortly after the episode aired. "I mean, get rid of Daario, bring on the ladies."

"Game of Thrones" is yet to feature a central lesbian romance. The shot between Yara and Khaleesi shown in the recent episode, wherein the former proposes an alliance with the latter, has triggered the speculation that the two can become one of the first lesbian couple of the hit fantasy series.

In the source novels by George R. R. Martin, Daenerys is explicitly portrayed as bisexual woman, having intimate flings with her handmaidens as well as a couple of male romances. On the other hand, Yara's interest in women was hinted upon in a passionate scene shown earlier this month in episode 8, "No One."

Now, fans are hoping that a big romance is likely to be on the cards for Yara, after the character's sizzling introduction to Mother of Dragons. In one of the scenes of "Battle of the Bastards," the two prospective Queens were evidently shown flirting as they form an alliance while discussing a marriage proposal from Yara's uncle.

"And I imagine your offer is free of any marriage demands?" asks Daenerys after which Yara declares mischievously that she does not demand it but is "up for anything."

Meanwhile, as the show heads towards its highly anticipated grand finale on June 26, Kit Harington, the actor who plays Jon Snow, sounded worried about his character's meeting with Khaleesi. Despite being two central characters, they have remained thousands of miles apart in the show's storyline and have not appeared together in the same shot yet.

"We've never shared a single scene," Express quoted the actor as saying. "So it might be dynamite, or it might be complete tosh."
