Nintendo seems to be falling off the wagon as their Nintendo NX could launch without proper VR capabilities which could also suggest that it would be another low-powered contender from the company.

The Nintendo NX will be going against the Sony PlayStation Neo and the Microsoft Xbox Scorpio which are both said to be capable of handling VR and 4K resolution at smooth framerates. Up until now, Nintendo has just been boasting about the content and have not dived into how much "horsepower" their new console has.

All three consoles do have a similarity: they are all considered to be still at the same console cycle as the current ones. The Neo will be an upgraded PS4, the Project Scorpio will be an upgraded Xbox One and the Nintendo NX has been confirmed that it will not be replacing the Wii U but rather providing just another way of playing.

Nintendo CEO Tatsumi Kimishima told investors in a meeting that they are focusing more in the Nintendo NX and putting VR aside for now, International Business Times has learned. This means that the Nintendo NX could have no VR capabilities at launch,

Sony already has their PlayStation VR headset ready to go with the PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation Neo. Microsoft has said that their Xbox Scorpio will be able to run VR and rumors claim that the Oculus Rift could be their VR headset as well considering that the device already uses Xbox One controllers.

The lack of VR capabilities in the Nintendo NX is alarming. It could also mean that the upcoming console would not reach the required six TFLOPs that Microsoft is claiming for VR.

Nintendo did tease that they have a secret new feature for the Nintendo NX, Express.co.uk reported. Game Designer Shigeru Miyamoto said that they cannot share anything regarding the new feature but said that it was not a matter of "advancements in technology," which could also signal bad news for the hardware of the console.

The company has not yet revealed official specs of the Nintendo NX but it is expected to be unveiled at the upcoming Tokyo Game Show in September. The release date is slated for March 2017.
