As soon as it was announced that "Hunter X Hunter" will be again taking a break, speculations started appearing. Now that an indefinite come back was not specified by Shonen Jump, others are thinking it may be the end for the manga series because of suspected worsening condition of Yoshihiro Togashi's sickness.
Just when the "Hunter X Hunter" manga had its comeback last month, the said series has been reported to take a hiatus again in publishing the next chapters. "Hunter X Hunter" stopped at episode 360 when the Dark Continent Arc was just starting.
The story left off when Kurapika was faced with an investigation of an unidentified beast which killed numerous body guards while they were on board on a ship. Two of the body guards admitted to having connections with the crime, but still, the main culprit remains unidentified at the latest chapter.
Several spoilers already surfaced for the next chapter, but since the series has been announced to take another break, confirmation of these speculations will remain unresolved as of the moment.
It has been known for most fans that the reason for the on and off hiatus of the manga series is the recurring back pain and sickness of its artist. Though it was unknown when the artist acquired his sickness, the series has been affected since 1999 when it started to take significant breaks from publication.
The breaks started to worsen in 2006 when only four issues of the manga series had been published. This continued in 2007 when several issues of the series were only published by the end of 2007, according to a chart by Hiatus.
In addition to the said data, the chart also showed that the series' longest hiatus is a total of 80 unpublished issues with a longest publication streak of only 30 issues. All in all, "Hunter X Hunter" was able to publish a total of 362 issues versus an unpublished sum of 522 issues.
When the series returned in June, its 33rd volume was able to dominate the weekly manga sales chart by selling an impressive 650,817 copies in one week, Crunchyroll reported. But now that Shonen Jump's 31st issue recently announced the break, not giving definite details for the manga's return, many are speculating the series will end for good.
Some fans may be hopeful that an update regarding the series' hiatus status will be released in a few months. To gain more insight on rumors surrounding the "Hunter X Hunter" recent break, watch the video below.
