Xbox execs: No exclusive titles, VR dedicated games for Project Scorpio because of low-powered Xbox One

The new Xbox One S gaming console is on display in the Microsoft Corp. Xbox booth during the annual E3 2016 gaming conference at the Los Angeles Convention Center on June 14, 2016 in Los Angeles, California.

Microsoft's own Mike Ybarra has confirmed that there will be no Xbox Project Scorpio exclusive titles and that there could be no dedicated VR games because the Xbox One cannot keep up.

The Redmond-based tech giant has not handled the reveal of the Xbox Scorpio well enough that people understand how it will perform against competitors next year. Earlier reports have even quoted one Xbox executive that there will be exclusive Project Xbox Scorpio titles depending on the developers but now they seem to be taking it back.

Sony seem to be beating Microsoft in the race as they have announced that the PlayStation Neo does exist and earlier reports have already claimed that it will be launched in the next couple of months based on the leaked information. Microsoft has also revealed Project Xbox Scorpio after Sony announced their new upgraded PlayStation 4 console.

In an interview with The Guardian, Xbox Head Mike Ybarra clarified some of the objectives that Microsoft was aiming to achieve with the new Project Xbox Scorpio. One of the items he explained is that there will be no Xbox Scorpio exclusive titles that will be launched in an effort to not alienate the current Xbox One users.

Microsoft has also made a hazy claim earlier that the framerate between the Xbox One and the Xbox Scorpio will basically be the same. The only advantage of the Project Scorpio console would be "true 4K gaming."

Spencer said that they wanted to wait for the Project Xbox Scorpio with its 6 TFLOPs to be perfected before they can release it to the public and he believes that it is what people "were asking for," GameSpot reported. However, VR for the said console seems to be a distant dream.

Considering that the Xbox One does not have the computing power to run VR games, Spencer said that they could be putting that project on hold with the Project Scorpio. In other words, they cannot dive into VR simply because the Xbox One or the Xbox One S cannot handle the required load.

With no exclusive titles, the same framerates and no VR, the Xbox Scorpio is shaping up to be a disappointment for some. The Sony PlayStation Neo could probably win more hearts as it releases this year while PC gamers today have lots of cheaper choices with GPUs ready for VR.
